Background

Malaysian Associated Chambers of Commerce and Industry, commonly referred to as MAICCI, was establshed in 1951 to explore various opportunities in the areas of development for the Indian community. The membership of MAICCI consists of the State and District Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry. MAICCI is a mamber of the National Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Malaysia (NCCIM). The activities of MAICCI are very broad based covering various aspects of the private sector and government ranging from trading to policy matters, asssisting entrepreneurs, to business counselling, networking within Malaysia and overseas, investment to human resource development.

Objectives

MAICCI was established in 1951 as the apex body for all State and District Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry. It represents the Indian business communities in the private sector. MAICCI maintains close cooperation with relevant government bodies and agencies, and with other national, regional and international organizations. MAICCI permanent secretariat is based in Kuala Lumpur, the nerve Centre of business in Malaysia. MAICCI was established to meet the following purposes : To facilitate and assist Indian businessmen to form Indian Chambers of Commerce lndustry in all states. To promote and coordinate activities of various State and District Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry. To make representations to Government on matters affecting the interests of its members in particular and the Indian business community in general. To promote welfare activities, organize seminars, tradefairs, forums, business networking beneficial to the members. To facilitate the setting up of industries and businesses in Malaysia.

Membership

Membership of MAICCI is in the form of States and District affiliation whereby States and District Indian Chambers of Commerce nominate their representatives. The other form of membership is Corporate Membership whereby companies are invited to be part of the apex body through direct membership. MAICCI Constituent Chambers MAICCI Corporate Members

Organization

Principal organs of MAICCI are : The Management Council The affairs and activities of MAICCI are governed and administered by the Management Council. The Management Council of MAICCI meets four times a year and is composed of representatives from all States and District Chamber of Commerce and Industry. The Secretariat The main task of the Secretariat is to facilitate the Management Council and Sub-Committees and provide other administrative support It prepares the work programme proposed by the Management Council which includes dissemination of information on business opportunities, seminars, technical expertise and representation to the Government.

Business Advisory and Assistance

MAICCI provides business advisory and counselling for Malaysian Indian businessmen. It also assists them to obtain information on loans from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, Ministry of Entrepreneur Development, Malaysia and other organizations. Information and opportunities on business development, vendor and franchising is also available in Suara Niaga - MAICCI's Business Newspaper.

Training and Skills Development

MAICCI places importance on training and skills development. It organizes various training sessions for entrepreneurs namely Entrepreneur Development Seminars on a regular basis, nationwide. Funding MAICCI is funded through subscriptions from the Constituent Chambers and Corporate Membership
